چکیده

We have studied the possible relationship between the immunohistochemical expression of p16 and the maximum standardized uptake value (SUV max) of F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (F-18 FDGPET) in 49 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Immunohistochemical negativity of p16 was verified in 71.4 % of the patients, higher in squamous cell carcinomas than in adenocarcinomas (p: 0.033). The SUV max correlates with negativity for p16 (p: 0.042) and was higher (p: 0.024) in cases with p16-negative (17.3 ± 8.3) than in cases with p16-positive (12.7 ± 5.2). We can conclude that inactivation of the p16 INK4a gene is very frequent in NSCLC, with higher values in squamous cell carcinomas. SUV max correlated positively and statistically with negativity for p16, which could explain why higher estimates of SUV max are found in squamous cell carcinomas when compared to adenocarcinomas. Only the clinical stage was found to be an independent prognostic value after multivariate

Prognostic value of various metabolic parameters on pre-treatment 18-F-FDG PET/CT in patients with stage I-III non-small cell lung cancer

Background: the aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of 18Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) parameters in both overall survival and progression-free survival in Stage I-III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 267 patients who were diagnosed as Stage I-III non-smal...

18F-FDG PET/CT of advanced gastric carcinoma and association of HER2 expression with standardized uptake value

Objective(s): Expression of HER2 in gastric carcinoma has direct prognostic and therapeutic implications in patient management. The aim of this study is to determine whether a relationship exists between standardized uptake value (SUV) and expression of HER2 in advanced gastric carcinoma. Methods: We analyzed the 18F-FDG PET/CT results of 109 patients that underwent gastrectomy for advanced gas...

Is the Glut expression related to FDG uptake in PET/CT of non-small cell lung cancer patients?

Though 18F-FDG PET/CT scans are widely used in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the mechanism of FDG uptake by lung cancer cells has not yet been fully elucidated. This study evaluated the relationship between FDG uptake and the expression of glucose transporters in NSCLC. Sixty-four NSCLC patients who underwent both preoperative 18F-FDG PET/CT scanning and thoracotomy were included. The max...

The maximum standardized FDG uptake on PET-CT in patients with non-small cell lung cancer

BACKGROUND Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for approximately 80% of new diagnoses of pulmonary carcinoma. This study investigated the correlation between 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in computerized tomography integrated positron emission tomography and tumor size, lymph node metastasis, and distant metastasis in patients with NSCLC. METHODS The records of 151 NSCLC patients (13...

An Observational Study of Circulating Tumor Cells and 18F-FDG PET Uptake in Patients with Treatment-Naive Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

INTRODUCTION We investigated the relationship of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with tumor glucose metabolism as defined by (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake since both have been associated with patient prognosis. MATERIALS & METHODS We performed a retrospective screen of patients at four medical centers who underwent FDG PET-CT imaging and phlebotomy...
